A few days ago I posted about this year’s WOMAD Summer School, which is taking place this week in Bath. Jazz drummer Billy Cobham is hosting a series of Drum Academy masterclasses, and using Sibelius to assist him. Our man on the ground, Nick Thomas, sent us some photos from one of Billy’s sessions, and I want to share a few of them with you.
The view from behind the legendary drummer’s kit, looking out onto the auditorium where musicians young and old have gathered to learn from the master. A couple more photos after the jump.
Billy uses Sibelius to demonstrate some simple patterns for Latin percussion and bass.
Sibelius’s Ideas window is great for quickly demonstrating a variety of musical patterns, and the Mixer allows you to try out different timbres simply and easily.
If I receive any more photos from this year’s Summer School, I’ll be sure to post them!

Very cool – love the big screen behind Billy Cobham. Make me curious how this was set up – did he play a number of percussion samples that were previously entered into Sibelius, or was he recorded ‘live’ in Sibelius using Live Playback and presumably a lot of midi devices?
