Legendary jazz/fusion drummer Billy Cobham will be leading a Drum Academy strand at this week’s WOMAD Summer School, which takes place from July 27th through July 31st, at Bath Spa University, in the beautiful city of Bath in the south-west of England.

The WOMAD web site says:

Bill Cobham, one of the world’s greatest drummers and a legend in his own lifetime, demonstrates his polyrhythmic wizardry and rock solid rhythm. Bill is a generous and enthusiastic tutor, making this week an unforgettable experience for any drummer.

On his own blog, Billy posts:

At the WOMAD Summer School I will be exploring this concept and other ideas with Justin Adams and Dr. Joel and the crew from AVID/Sibelius in late July. We will work in real time with rhythm section associated players including professional and amateur alike over the 5 day period. The beauty of all this is that we can “SEE” all that we do as we play via Sibelius thus we learn the language of music in a natural way.

Folks representing Sibelius will be attending the Summer School this week to make sure everything runs smoothly. If you can make it down there at short notice, it looks like a few spots are still available.
